The Frieberg Center for East Asian Studies provides financial assistance for Advanced MA, Doctoral and Post-Doctoral students in the field of East Asian studies to help them travel abroad for conference or to conduct short-term research. For those who want to attend a conference they are expected to present a research paper, or chair a session, or organize a panel in an international scientific event (conference/seminar/symposium/workshop etc) in the field of East Asian Studies (specifically, but not confined to Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Mongolian studies).
Eligibility: Doctoral students and post-docs of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Advanced MA students are also encouraged to apply.
The support will be usually be within the range of 500-1000 USD (in exceptional cases the sum of the support may be increased).
A researcher can be granted only one ITS grant a year.
Please submit your application to the Frieberg Center (eacenter@mail.huji.ac.il) with a copy to the center’s chair, Prof. Gideon Shelach-Lavi (Gideon.Shelach@mail.huji.ac.il).
Please specify the follows:
1. A detailed explanation of the need to travel abroad and why it is important for the student
to take this trip. When asking for support to travel to a conference please provide the details of the conference, the title and abstract of your presentation/panel, confirmation from the organizers that your presentation/panel had been accepted. In case the support is asked for a research trip provide detailed explanation of what you want to do, where, and how such research will advance your studies at the Hebrew University.
2. Details budget of the trip, including the invoice of the flight ticket, if relevant. 3. Your CV + list of publications (no longer than 3 pp.).
Candidates whose application had been approved should acknowledge the Frieberg Center support in any publication that may derive from the conference or research trip. A copy of the publication that derived from the Center’s support (ideally an e-copy) will be submitted to the Frieberg Center. Applications should be submitted until July 1st, 2021.
