Call For Applications for Louis Frieberg Post-Doctoral Fellowships
The Louis Frieberg Center for East Asian Studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem offers post-doctoral fellowships
for the year 2026-2027, Open to humanities/social-sciences scholars of East Asia (esp. China, Japan, Korea, Mongolia).
Term: one academic year (Oct 2026–June 2027) or one term; possible 1-year extension.
Eligibility: PhD in hand by Oct 2026; start no later than 4 years after PhD.
Support: tax-free 8,500 NIS/month; round-trip direct airfare up to USD 2,000 (economy).
Duties: teach one semester-long course in HU’s Asian Studies Dept (paid separately ≈16,000 NIS gross); present research
at the departmental seminar/other forums; participate in Center activities and help organize events; at least two
days/week on campus including seminar day; outside work only with Center approval; Hebrew welcome but not required.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship: Steppe Cities in Medieval Mongolia
The ISF project Steppe Cities in Medieval Mongolia: Historical, Archaeological and Environmental Perspectives
at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem under the direction of Professors Gideon Shelach-Lavi and Michal Biran
is offering a post-doctoral fellowship in Inner Asian history beginning in October 2025 (ie next month) or later.
We are looking for candidates fluent in classical Chinese (other languages- an advantage) and Inner Asian history
(notably Uighur Empire, Liao or Mongol periods) who can join an interdisciplinary team studying the functioning
and sustainability of cities in medieval Mongolia.
Deadline for 2025 is open; deadline for summer-fall 2026: December 17, 2025
